Audi Q5 from USA

The Audi Q5 is a compact, luxury crossover that was unveiled in 2008, first shown in Beijing and later in Los Angeles. So far, two generations of this model have been released, which is also very popular in Poland. If you want to import the Audi Q5 from the USA, it is worth first to find out how the versions of this car for the US and Canadian markets differ.

Audi Q5 Type 8R

The first generation of the Audi Q5 has the designation Typ 8R and was produced from 2009 to 2017. Its arrival was heralded by the Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro concept car, shown a year earlier in Los Angeles. The car is based on the MLB floorboard, on which the Audi A4 B8, Audi A5 and Porsche Macan were also built.

The first cars hit American dealerships in 2009. Initially, only the 3.2 FSI V6 engine with 270 hp and quattro drive was offered. It was not until 2011 that the 2.0 TFSI quattro variant with 211 hp joined. It is worth knowing that due to the Dieselgate scandal, cars with TDI engines were not offered on the US market.

In 2011, the Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro entered the range. This is a soft hybrid with a 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine with 211 hp. The total maximum power of the drive is 245 hp. The all-electric mode is available up to 60 km/h, but the range is only 3 km. The main task of the electric motor is to assist acceleration. The declared fuel consumption of the hybrid version is less than 7 l per 100 km.

Facelifting

In 2012, the car underwent a facelift consisting of changing the lights at the front and rear, adding new interior trim options and a modification of the MMI Navigation Plus system involving the addition of a button to change the track or radio station when adjusting the volume. The 3.0 FSI Quattro variant was replaced by the 3.0 TFSI Quattro with 272 hp.

Audi SQ5

In 2013, the Audi SQ5 entered the showrooms. The model intended for the American market has a 3.0 TFSI gasoline engine with a capacity of 354 hp. Customers from Europe still had the choice of the 3.0 TDI variant. The main features of the Audi SQ5 are permanent 4-wheel drive, eight-speed Tiptronic transmission, 20-inch wheels and styling additions and new color options, available only for this version.

Audi Q5 Type FY

The second generation Audi Q5 was presented in 2016. Production of the car began in Mexico on September 30 of the same year. Customers from the United States had at their disposal only the 2.0 TFSI version with 252 hp. The quattro drive was offered as standard. The car is equipped with technology that disconnects the rear axle when it is not needed. This means that, for example, when driving at a constant speed on the highway, power and torque are transferred only to the front axle, which reduces fuel consumption. In the SQ5 model, the 3.0 TFSI engine with 354 hp again went under the hood, but the torque was increased to 500 Nm.

In the 2019 model year, the list of standard equipment of the car was expanded. It has heated seats, a multimedia screen with a diagonal of 7 inches and beams for attaching luggage. In 2020, a plug-in hybrid version with a range of up to 32 km in electric mode joined the offer. The total power of the drive is 362 hp, and the declared acceleration to a hundred is 5 s.

Facelifting

In July 2020, the Audi Q5 went to dealerships after a facelift. Visual changes included the radiator dummy, side air intakes in the front bumper, sills and rear moldings. There is also a new multimedia system with a 10.1-inch touch screen, which is part of the standard equipment. It also includes a rich suite of safety systems, including front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear view detection and lane keeping assistant.

In the 2021 model year, a new body variant was also presented - the Sportback. Thanks to him, the small SUV has become more athletic. As standard, the stylistic elements of the S line package appeared and the roof rails were removed. For the SQ5 Sportback, adaptive suspension is included in the standard equipment list.

After the facelift, the Audi Q5 is offered with a 45 designation and a 261 hp 2.0 TFSI engine, assisted by a 13 hp electric motor. Also on offer are the Q5 Sportback S line 45 TFSI quattro, Q5 S line 55 TFSI e quattro (plug-in hybrid), SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback with a 349-hp 3.0 TFSI engine.
