Alfa Romeo from USA
Alfa Romeo is an Italian car manufacturer with more than a century of tradition. The brand is also present in the United States, although its history in the American market is quite turbulent and complicated. Currently, the manufacturer offers Alfa Romeo Giulia, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Alfa Romeo Tonale models there. At Bryki from America we offer Alfa Romeo imports from the USA. The cars are better equipped than their counterparts offered in Europe, and at the same time have lower prices than on the secondary market, for example in Poland. It is also worth taking an interest in the classic models of this Italian brand.
History of Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo was founded in 1910 when Alexandre Darracq founded a car company near Milan and produced cars under his own brand Darracq. Later it was bought by local entrepreneurs and changed its name to Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili and hence Alfa. The Romeo section was added in 1918 when Nicola Romeo took the reins. In 1933, the manufacturer changed ownership again and became a state institution Instituto Ricostruzione Industriale. The marriage with Fiat took place only in 1986. Since 2021, Alfa Romeo is owned by the Stellantis concern, which also absorbed Fiat, formerly part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
Alfa Romeo in the USA
Alfa Romeo came to the United States in the 1950s through private imports. The official representative office opened only in 1961. In 1995, Alfa Romeo disappeared from the American market and returned only 20 years later with the 4C and Giulia models, and later Stelvio and more recently also Tonale joined the offer. However, the Italian brand remains niche all the time. The period of greatest popularity falls on the 60s and 70s of the last century. The breakthrough was the appearance of the Duetto Spider model in the film “The Graduate”. Then sales of cars of this brand skyrocketed, but the euphoria did not last long. The Americans pointed to problems with the build quality. Added to this was an underdeveloped dealer network and a small selection of Alfa Romeo models. Which country is most likely to buy cars of this brand? At the top of the sales rankings, of course, is Italy, and in second place is Germany.

Alfa Romeo logo - what does it mean?
The Alfa Romeo logo is a combination of two symbols of Milan. The first is a red cross on a white background. This is the historical coat of arms of the Lombardy region. In turn, the snake (Biscone) is the coat of arms of the Visconti family, which ruled Milan in the past. Although the brand logo has evolved over the years, these two elements remain unchanged. This is due to the fact that Italians strongly cherish their traditions and national symbols.

The Veloce version had a more powerful engine and was lighter. Under the hood, a 1.3 engine with a power of about 90 hp is running. The famous Pininfarina studio is responsible for the design of the body.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Special (1963-1966)
This particular variation of the Giulia model was created in the number of only 1400 copies. What does the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale look like? This is a streamlined coupe with a low coefficient of aerodynamic drag with an elegant interior, finished with leather upholstery. Under the hood is a 1.6 engine with Weber 40 DCOE carburettors. It generates a power of 112 hp, and the maximum speed of the car is about 190 km/h.
Alfa Romeo Spider “Duetto” (1966-1969)
The classic Alfa Romeo Spider is very popular among collectors. In the American market, the Spider “Duetto” from the first series of production is most appreciated. How much does Alfa Romeo cost in this variant? The prices of well-kept copies reach up to 100 thousand dollars. The characteristic boat-shaped body is the work of the Pininfarina design studio. The car is powered by a 1.6 engine from the Giulia model. More than 6,000 units of this variant have been sold in the United States.
Alfa Romeo GTV
The Alfa Romeo GTV from 1963-1974 achieved high prices at auction thanks to its success in racing, where it competed against the 2002 BMW and Porsche 911. The body was designed by Bertone studio. Initially, it had a 1.6 engine, but, for example, in 1967, a version of the 1750 GTV with a 1779 cm3 engine, which was equipped with fuel injection, came to the American market. GTV models from the 1980s with a 154 hp 2.5 V6 Busso engine gained popularity thanks to wins in American racing series and rallies.
Alfa Romeo from USA - new cars
Alfa Romeo returned to the United States in 2015 and since then 4 models of the Italian manufacturer have appeared on the American market.
Alfa Romeo 4C
The Alfa Romeo 4C is a lightweight, compact sports car with a 1.75 engine with 240 hp. It was sold in coupe and spider versions. The former disappeared from the US in 2018 after a change in federal safety regulations. Spider was offered until 2020, and small quantities of limited versions were also sold in the US market. The cars were assembled by hand in Maranello and about 10,500 units were produced.
Alfa Romeo Giulia
Alfa Romeo Giulia is a premium sedan with sporty performance and handling. This is the first car built on the basis of the Giugiaro platform. Only one generation was created, but it went through smaller and larger facelifts along the way. The most powerful version is the Quadrifolgio, which has a V6 engine created in collaboration with Ferrari, active suspension and four-wheel drive. The base version offered in the USA has a 2.0 four-cylinder engine with 280 hp, which comes with rear-axle drive or AWD.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio
The Stelvio model appeared on the market in 2017 and is also based on the Giugiaro platform, but with a slightly modified suspension, which has a higher ground clearance. It is a compact SUV that is expected to compete with, among others, the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Ferrari's V6 version of the Quadrifolgio was at one point the fastest production SUV on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. In the first year of sales, the Americans bought about 43 thousand copies of this model. The engine range in the USA is the same as for the Giulia model.
Alfa Romeo Tonale
Alfa Romeo Tonale is another SUV from the Italian brand. In the US market, it is offered exclusively as a plug-in hybrid with a 1.3 four-cylinder internal combustion engine. The total power of the set is 285 hp. Initially, three versions of the equipment were offered, and now there is only one. This is due to the fact that Alfa Romeo is again experiencing a significant drop in interest in the USA. The decision to limit the offer to the PHEV version is dictated by the fact that this is the only drive in the range that meets the requirements of the exhaust emission standards in California, and these are different from the federal ones. However, customers can count on rich equipment and favorable prices.
Alfa Romeo from the USA - is it worth it?
Americans still do not burn with love for the Alfa Romeo brand. Is it worth bringing an Italian car from this country? Paradoxically, the answer is yes! Low interest means lower prices with better equipment. At the same time, collectors highly value collector models, which is a good sign if you are looking for an interesting classic from the USA and it is not necessarily supposed to be a road cruiser. Alfa Romeo is a combination of beautiful and timeless body lines with sporty emotions.
