For 42 years, the Ford F150 has been the best-selling car in the United States. It was calculated that if the F150 became a separate brand, then the hypothetical Ford F150 USA would not only be a more expensive brand than Ford itself, but could also absorb it. The car is part of a whole series with the designation F, the production of which began in 1948 and already includes 14 generations.

Ford F150 2009-2014

The twelfth generation of the F150 debuted in 2009 and was part of the Super Duty platform redesign program, on which the dummy radiator styling is based. The headlights refer to the Edge and Expedition models. In 2009, a manual transmission fell out of the offer. In 2010, Ford changed the control module of the car's electronics, which limited the differences in parts and the list of add-ons made available from the car's software.

Customers had several engines to choose from — two 4.6 V8 versions differing in the number of valves, a 5.4 V8, a 3.5 V6 EcoBoost, a 3.7 V6 with two turbochargers, a new 5.0 V8 with 360 hp and a 6.2 V8 Boss. The latter, of course, is the most powerful and has 411 hp. The car had three body configurations - a cabin with front seats, an extended 2+2 cabin and a 4-door.

As many as 10 versions of equipment were waiting for customers. The base was XL, followed by STX, XLT, FX2/FX4, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Raptor. In 2011, the Lariat Limited variant was sold. Based on the Lariat version, the Ford F150 Harley-Davidson was also created. Limited, richest and special versions have a 6.2 V8 engine under the hood.

In 2010, the Ford F150 SVT Raptor was created. The inspiration was the cars used in enduro rallies and desert races. It was offered with 5.0 V8 and 6.2 V8 engines. In addition to the differences in appearance, the most important were the design differences. The wheelbase has been extended and the electronics optimized for sharper driving on asphalt and off-road.

Ford F150 2014-2020

In 2014, the 13th generation Ford F150 went on sale. Stylistically, the car represented a strong breath of freshness and was based on the Atlas concept model shown in 2013. The car began to look more like a premium class vehicle than a working ox. The frame remained steel, but the body elements are aluminum. Thanks to this, the weight of the car was reduced by as much as 340 kg. The car was offered in two-seater, 2+2 and four-door SuperCrew versions.

There was also a lack of novelties in the equipment, as the list of electronic security systems has expanded. Customers could purchase adaptive cruise control, a 360 camera, a collision warning system with braking assistance, a blind spot monitoring system with a warning of cross traffic at the rear of the vehicle and a lane keeping assistant.

There have also been changes in the list of available engines. The 2.7 EcoBoost V6 engine appeared, and in addition to it, also offered 3.3 V6, 3.5 V6 in EcoBoost and non-supercharged versions, and 5.0 V8 engines. The offer was also joined by a 3.0 V6 turbocharged diesel engine.

In 2018, the car underwent a facelift. Changed the shape of the radiator dummy from trapezoidal with three ribs to octagonal with two ribs. All versions received a rear-view camera as part of the standard equipment, which was forced by federal regulations. The biggest change in the interior was the appearance of the Ford SYNC 3 system.

In the 2017 model year, the Ford F150 Raptor appeared, already without SVT and without a 6.2 V8 engine. Instead, a 3.5 EcoBoost V6 powered by two turbochargers went under the hood. The reduction in capacity did not mean a loss of power at all, on the contrary - it was now 450 hp, so 39 hp more than with the V8 engine. The car had, among other things, a specially designed suspension of the Fox brand. In 2019, Recaro bucket seats and active suspension were added to the list of optional equipment.

Ford F150 2020-

In 2020, production of the 14th generation of the F150 model began, which went to dealerships a year later. Although the design was reminiscent of the previous version, 92 percent of the elements were new or redesigned. Ford has improved the aerodynamics of the F150. The body versions remained unchanged, and customers had at their disposal a two-seater variant, a 2+2 variant with one pair of doors or a four-door variant.

The list of engines included a gasoline 2.7 V6 EcoBoost, a 3.5 V6 EcoBoost with two turbochargers, a 5.2 V8 designed for the Raptor model, flex-fuel 3.3 V6 and 5.0 V8 engines, and a hybrid with a 3.5 V6 PowerBoost gasoline engine and a 3.0 V6 turbocharged diesel engine. The hybrid version was only available with the SuperCrew cab and provided 20 percent less fuel consumption compared to the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost.

The Ford Raptor appeared in 2021 and was initially sold with a 3.5 EcoBoost V6 engine, but in 2023 the Raptor R with a 5.2 V8 supercharged engine joined the lineup. In 2022, the F150 Lightning model went on sale, which has a fully electric drive and, depending on the version, offers a range of 390 to 480 km in the Platinum version. In 2023, the car also went to European showrooms.

In 2022, a diesel engine disappeared from the offer, which received too little interest. The new Black Appearance design package has been released for XL, XLT, Lariat and Platinum versions. In 2023, a special anniversary version was unveiled — the Ford F150 Heritage Edition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the F-Series.

The biggest update came in 2024 and included styling changes, an improved loading hatch, the addition of LCD clocks and the Ford SYNC 4 system with a 12" touchscreen display. In higher trim levels, customers can order an optional head-up display. The 3.3 V6 engine has disappeared from the offer. Changes have also been made to the equipment versions. Ford says it has reduced the complexity of the ordering process by 90 percent.
