The first generation Cayman debuted in 2006 with a balanced weight distribution of 46:54 (front/rear). Boxer engines, which are located centrally, went under the hood. For this, the car has a rear-axle drive. At the heart of the structure is the lightweight Audi Space Frame, which is 60 percent made of aluminum.

In 2008, the car underwent a facelift marked 987.2. In the Porsche Cayman, the interior received a new 6.5" multimedia screen with the PCM3 system, and in the S version the upholstery was made of Alcantara as standard. From the outside, there were new LED rear lights, a new grill, optional LED daytime running lights and new wheel designs. The suspension has been improved, the PDK gearbox has been introduced, the Sport Chrono package with the start control system has been added.

Porsche Cayman II generation (981, 2014-2016)
