Porsche 911 type 901 (1964-1974)

The first generation of the Porsche 911 debuted in 1963, in Frankfurt. From the very beginning, the car was available in the United States. However, it is worth knowing that, for example, the 911T for the American market had mechanical fuel injection, although in Europe a carburetor was used. This was due to exhaust emission standards. In 1973, the 911T began to be fitted to the US market with a K-Jetronic injection from Bosch.

One of the most striking variants of the 901 series is the 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, which featured 2.7 and 3.0 engines. The latter was also installed in the 911 SC. The Carrera RS was distinguished by its sporty appearance, a large wing, characteristic rims and a side belt with the name of the model. Now that's a great investment of capital.

Porsche 911 type 964 (1989-1993)

The third generation 911 looked modern and appeared in many versions. It is worth knowing that the numbers 2 and 4 mean that the drive is rear-axle or 4-wheel drive. In 1992, a special version of the Speedster based on the Carrera 2 model was presented. Only 925 copies were produced. The idea for the creation of this model was put forward by the Americans, who lobbied for the creation of 911 for the young and wealthy residents of sunny states. This is how the car was born, which was the spiritual heir of the 356 Speedster model.

Porsche 911 type 993 (1993-1998)

Presented in 1993, the Porsche 911 of the 993 series was the last to have air-cooled engines and the well-groomed examples have long gone for the price, so they represent an excellent investment of capital. The greatest achievement of this generation was the Porsche 911 Turbo S, in which the engine generates 424 hp, since two turbochargers were used. There were also racing versions GT3 (3.6, 360 hp), GT2 (3.6 turbo, 430 hp). The least common in nature is the 911 GT2 Evo with a 550 hp engine, as it was offered for a very short time.

Porsche 911 type 996 (1998-2006)

Although it has not been long since the end of production of the Porsche 911 of the 996 series, it can already be considered a young classic, although its shapes bravely resist the passage of time. In this generation, liquid-cooled engines were used for the first time. In the 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models, there was a 3.4 l engine with a capacity of 300 hp. As in the previous generation, there were powerful rear-wheel drive performance versions - the GT3 with the 381 hp engine and the GT2 with the 462 hp turbocharged engine. In both cases, the manufacturer offered only manual transmissions.

Porsche 911 in the 21st century

The next generations of the Porsche 911 are not only more powerful, but also more advanced electronics and the use of new, lightweight materials. However, the recipe for success and the spirit of 911 does not change.

Porsche 911 type 997 (2004-2012)

The sixth generation Porsche 911 was shown in 2004. Stylistically, this model pleased fans of the brand, as the flat headlights were replaced by more round and sculpted ones, which resembled the classic 911 models. The basic 911 Carrera received a larger engine with a volume of 3.6 l, which generates 325 hp. It also came under the hood of the Targa version. In the S version, the capacity has been increased to 3.8 l, and the power is 355 or 381 hp.

The GT3 and GT3 RS models before the facelift have a 415 hp engine, and after the refresh they gained an additional 20 hp. The cars have rear-wheel drive, reduced equipment for comfort and are built of lightweight materials. In the Porsche 911 Turbo, an engine from 996 is used, which has a power of 480 hp before the facelift and 500 hp after the changes. There was also the GT2 variant, where aluminum and kevlar were used to build the body. The engine power here is 530 hp and is transmitted to the rear axle.

Porsche 911 type 991 (2011-2019)

In this generation of the 911 model, there was no shortage of interesting tastes. In addition to the obvious 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, the 911 T and Targa 4 GTS also appeared. In GT3, the engine capacity is 4.0 l, and the power is equal to 500 hp. The Targa 4 GTS is the most powerful variant of this version in history and boasts a power of 430 hp. The 911 T is inspired by the model of the same name, which was produced in the 1960s. However, the modern version has a turbocharged 3.0 engine with 370 hp. It could be ordered in a version with a manual or automatic transmission. It also has a sports suspension. The weight was reduced to 1425 kg.

Porsche 911 type 992 (from 2019)

The latest generation of the 911 was introduced in 2018 and went into production in 2019. It is longer, wider and shorter than its predecessor. However, the wheelbase, which is 2450 mm, has not changed. An interesting fact is the appearance of a new driving mode “Wet”, which is useful on wet surfaces. The manufacturer has used special acoustic sensors here, thanks to which the computer recognizes the sound of driving on a wet surface and adjusts the work of safety systems.

In the list of basic equipment of all models in the Targa body there is an active suspension. In 2020, a special version of the Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition appeared, which refers to the classic 911s in this body. Only 992 units of this car went on the market.

GT3 versions were introduced in 2021. The 4.0 engine has 510 hp and is devoid of supercharging. The car is styled more aggressively than the standard 911. In 2022, the GT3 RS was presented, where even better aerodynamics were used, which allowed for increased downforce. Engine power raised to 525 hp. The GT3 is also available in the Touring variant, which is slightly more polite, more comfortable and lacks a rear wing.

In 2022, a special version of the Sport Classic was presented, which was limited to 1250 copies. It is distinguished, among others, by a ducktail spoiler and an enlarged body, which at the same time is devoid of air intakes. Another limited version is the 911 Dakar produced in the number of 2500 units. By its design, the car refers to off-road rallies. In 2023, the 911 R/T was presented for the 60th birthday of the model. The Porsche 911 GT3 variant was taken as a base. There were 1963 cars on the market.

For the 2025 model year, Porsche gave the 911 a facelift. The most important novelty is the appearance of hybrid drives.
