BMW X1 E84 (2012-2015)

Although the BMW X1 debuted in Europe in 2009, the Americans had to wait three years for it. The car is based on the BMW 3 Series platform of the E90 series. It has a steel frame with aluminum body parts. The available drive versions are RWD (sDrive) and all-wheel drive (xDrive). For the 2014 model year, the car underwent a facelift. The front and rear bumpers were redesigned, the headlights and taillights were changed, new 17" wheel designs were introduced and new trim options were added, thanks to which the interior of the polyft BMW X1 became more interesting.

In American copies of the BMW X1, a diesel engine was not offered, and customers had a choice of two high-power gasoline units. In the case of the BMW X1, combustion was of secondary importance for the Americans. The first generation had the following engines:

• 2.0 Turbo R4 - mounted on sDrive28i and xDrive28i, maximum power - 240 hp, gearbox - 8-speed automatic;
• 3.0 Turbo R6 - mounted in xDrive35i, maximum power - 300 hp, gearbox - 6-speed automatic.

BMW X1 F48 (2016-2022)

The next generation X1 debuted with the UKL2 platform, which is modular and front-wheel drive. This means that customers had a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (xDrive) versions. The latter had a variable torque distribution. In the M Sport version, an adaptive suspension was available. Electric power steering is also used, which is lighter and more precise. The change in the basic type of drive resulted in an increase in the amount of space for passengers traveling in the rear. It also allowed for a higher body profile and increased visibility.

In 2019, the car underwent a facelift. The radiator dummy was increased, new LED headlights appeared, bumpers and taillights were redesigned, and the iDrive system with a touch screen became the standard.

The BMW X1 F48 in the USA had only one engine and it was a 2.0 Turbo R4 with 228 hp. It was paired with an 8-speed automatic.

American customers had a choice of two versions of the second generation BMW X1:

• sDrive28i/xDrive28i - dual-zone climate control, iDrive system with 6.5" screen (touchscreen from 2019), seats upholstered in SensaTec synthetic leather, electric front seat adjustment, rear view camera, LED headlights with DRL, electric tailgate;
• xDrive28i M Sport - the same as above, additionally sports seats with lateral adjustment, 19" M Double-Spoke rims, M Sport suspension lowered by 10 mm, M steering wheel with shift paddles, black roof liner.

• Convenience Package - panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, keyless system, heated front seats;
• Premium Package - navigation with 8.8" screen (after 2019 with 10.25" screen), Harman Kardon audio system, head-up display, heated steering wheel;
• M Sport Package - more aggressive body kit, 19" M rims, sports suspension, aluminum inserts in the cabin.

BMW X1 U11 (2023-present)

Currently on the market we have the third generation of the X1 model, which is based on the improved UKL2 platform. The standard and only drive offered in the US is the xDrive. The car is larger, but at the same time its aerodynamics have been improved. Adaptive M suspension is available in the M35i version.

BMW continues to offer only one engine and it is the 2.0 Turbo R4, which in the base version has 241 hp and in the M version - 312 hp. The transmission was changed to a 7-speed DCT.
